Memories of Fremont High School 1943-1944 (11th and 12th grades)

Kids I remember at Fremont (some were also with me at Roosevelt).

Catharine Bacon - she was another of my secret loves.

George Armstrong - the body builder.

Bob Elliott - he didn't like some of us from Roosevelt.

Ted Gould - my boxing partner.

Norm Ironsides - a football player.

Mrs. Ammarati - my English Literature instructor. We read Shakespeare's Edward II in her class. One of her favorite characters was Falstaff and his quote: "discretion is the better part of valor".

I remember the long hikes out Foothill Blvd. to Fremont - it was 25 blocks (2 ½ miles) one-way.

I remember the time the plane crashed just a block off Foothill Blvd.

I remember how my morale dropped to a new low during my final semester when I was classified 1-A for the draft even before I had finished school.

Yearbook pictures from Fremont High in the 1940s.
